House bed bugs are a real threat that is very difficult to eliminate. The ideal habitat for these insects is an apartment, which provides everything they need for their life and active reproduction:
- optimal temperature,
- food,
- plenty of secluded places for laying eggs.
Since house bed bugs are blood-sucking insects, such neighbourhood causes many problems for people.
The first signs of bed bugs appearing in your apartment may be red, swollen bites on the body and small blood spots on the sheets. These are usually noticed in the morning after waking up.
The presence of insects is also indicated by black dots on furniture, skirting boards and wallpaper – these are traces of their vital activity. The room may even have a sour smell, similar to fermented berries.
Bed bugs settle in furniture, bedding and used clothes, and their eggs or larvae can be found there. These nasty insects spread throughout the house, filling every corner.
They live safely in boxes and suitcases. This is why it is so important to carefully disinfect old items from an infested home or get rid of them altogether, because a person may not even realize that they are wearing clothes with bed bugs.
Most of all, bed bugs disturb people at night with their bites, depriving them of rest and normal sleep.
During the day, itching in the affected area makes it difficult to carry out normal daily activities. In some cases, bites can cause an allergic reaction or become a traumatic factor, especially for small children. The risk of infection when scratching the wounds cannot be excluded.
Those who decide to get rid of bed bugs forever should follow several recommendations. After all, the sooner a problem is detected, the easier it is to deal with it.
To get rid of bed bugs, you need to know exactly where they hide, so you should check the seams of mattresses, cracks in the bed frame and examine the area behind the headboard.
It is important to wash all clothes and bedding in hot water, then dry them on a hot radiator, in direct sunlight or near a heater for at least 20 minutes. Such actions will leave no chance of survival for bed bugs, their larvae or even eggs. Washed and dried clothes should be placed in airtight plastic bags.
If you intend to fight bed bugs on your own, first of all you must treat the suspected areas with a bed bug insecticide.
After such treatment, check the areas cleared of infestation for any new signs of insect activity. Repeated treatment may be necessary after 2 months. However, according to our experience, signs of bed bugs appear after 2–3 weeks.
The reason lies in insufficient treatment or lack of attention. To completely get rid of these insects, it is necessary to treat surfaces with special products not only in local areas near the bed or in the pantry, but also furniture, doors, cavities under the floor, etc.
There are several ways to get rid of them on your own, but their effectiveness is equal to zero. These are only temporary solutions, nothing more.
Therefore, these bed bug control measures should be entrusted to professionals.
